Charlotte A. Whetstone Principal

Charlotte Whetstone:  Mrs. Whetstone was born in New York City but grew up in Dothan, Alabama.  She attended the Dothan City Public Schools.  While a student, she enjoyed reading and often tutored younger students in reading.  While in high school, she began tutoring children with learning disabilities and decided to make this her career.

She graduated from the University of Florida in 1973 with a Bachelor's degree in Special Education.  She received her Master's degree from Auburn University in 1978 in the field of Learning Disabilities.  She completed certification requirements at Troy State in Montgomery in Administration/Supervision in 1991.

Mrs. Whetstone became Principal at Coosada Elementary when it opened in August 1998.  Previously, she was Assistant Principal at Robinson Springs Elementary School, Student Service Facilitator at Wetumpka Elementary School, and a Special Education Teacher for 21 years at schools in Elba, Hugley, Mobile, Montgomery, and Wetumpka, Alabama.

She is married with two daughters and two cats.  She continues to enjoy reading along with traveling and water skiing.  She is an active member of First United Methodist Church.  Before entering administration with the long hours required, she performed in several community theater productions.

Mrs. Whetstone stated that being around children keeps her young at heart.  She continues to enjoy learning new things and wants to share this love of learning with the students.  She also envisions these young students having the same love of learning that she does.

Max Jay Weston:  Mr. Weston was born in Birmingham, Alabama and was a student in the Birmingham City Public School system from first through twelfth grades.  His favorite subject while a student at Charles A. Brown Elementary School was reading while English was his favorite subject in high school.  He graduated from Ensley High School in 1979.

He graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1984 with a Bachelor's of Science degree.  He received a Masters of Elementary Education degree from Auburn University at Montgomery in 1992 and an Education Specialist degree from AUM in 1996.  He earned certification in Administration in 1997.

He is married, has two children and two German Shepherds named Smokey and Ace.  As a hobby, he enjoys training dogs in obedience and tracking, and he serves as editor for the "Recall", a monthly publication from the Montgomery Dog Obedience Club (MADOC), an affiliate of the American Kennel Club (AKC).

He said that the best part of his job is helping the students at Coosada Elementary School to acquire knowledge, develop skills, and establish work habits which will help them to become contributing and caring members of their community.
